Story of the Hand Crafted Box Florestas partner with artisans located in small communities to offer Brazilian handcrafted products. We are offering wooden boxes made from the fallen leaves and arms of Buriti palm trees along with our cosmetics products. Contact us for availablity. The boxes are all individually made and vary one from another slightly in colour and size. These lovely items are made to order by a group of forty women from Urucuia in Minas Gerais State.The Urucuia Project began in 1998 at the initiative and advice of the Solidary Community (Comunidade Solidaria). The project encourages the families who suffered from the long dry season to search within their culture for new ways of sustenance which still value their way of life. To achieve a way of increasing their low income, this group of forty women use traditional knowledge of the region to produce candies and handicrafts fromlocal plants. The special boxes which they produce are now being offered by Florestas to U.S. consumers as a way to promote Brazilian art craft and generate income to local communities.
